What is the purpose of this test?

• Detects the presence of bacteria, yeast, or other microorganisms in the blood.

When does one need to get this test done?

• When signs of infection are present, such as fever, rapid heart rate, nausea, confusion, or reduced urine output.

• After recent surgeries, valve replacements, or in cases with high risk of systemic infections.
