What is the purpose of this test?
The HbsAg test is used to detect hepatitis B surface antigens, proteins present on the surface of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It helps in screening and diagnosing acute and chronic hepatitis B infections.
When does one need to get this test done?
If there is suspicion or symptoms of hepatitis B infection, such as jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes), abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, or loss of appetite.
As part of routine health check-ups, especially for those at higher risk of hepatitis B due to factors like exposure to infected blood, unprotected sex, or sharing needles.
