Purpose:

• Measures prolactin levels to diagnose and monitor conditions related to abnormal prolactin levels

When to Get This Test Done:

• Recommended for women with symptoms like changes in sexual drive, irregular periods, or breast milk production not associated with pregnancy

• Suggested for men experiencing sexual dysfunction or abnormal breast enlargement

• Used to detect prolactinoma (pituitary gland tumor) in both men and women

Pre-Test Information:

• Overnight fasting preferred but not mandatory

• No special preparation required
